Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Method

  • Sift dry ingredients; add milk, oil and vanilla.
  • Mix well until batter is smooth.
  • Blend in nuts.
  • Spread batter into a greased, floured 9 x 9-inch pan.
  • Sprinkle one cup packed brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa over batter.
  • Pour 1 3/4 cups hot water over that.
  • Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.
  • Brownie-like cake comes to the top with a chocolate pudding on the bottom.
  • Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
