Ingredients

  • 7 c. white, unbleached flour
  • 1/2 c. honey, molasses or maple syrup
  • 1/2 c. (1 stick) butter or margarine
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. dry yeast (2 small pkg.)
  • 1 1/2 c. hot water
  • 1 c. warm water
  • raisins and nuts (1 c. each, optional)

Method

  • Dissolve and proof yeast in 1 cup warm water; add 1 tablespoon honey to yeast water and let foam.
  • Stir 1 1/2 cups hot water, salt and butter until butter melts; add honey.
  • Add yeast and all mixtures together in large bowl.
  • Add flour a cup at a time, stirring.
  • Knead dough 5 to 10 minutes until smooth; grease bowl and dough.
