Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 c. broken nuts
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. fig jam
  • 2 c. chopped dates
  • 2 Tbsp. sherry

Method

  • Cream together the shortening and sugar, then add eggs.
  • Sift together the first seven ingredients and add alternately to the sugar mixture with the sherry.
  • Add nuts, raisins, dates and figs. Chill overnight in refrigerator.
  • Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes in a 350° oven.
