Ingredients

  • 1 c. quick rolled oats
  • 1 c. whole bran cereal
  • 1 c. raisins (optional)
  • 1 1/2 c. cream-style cottage cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 6 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour

Method

  • Combine first 8 ingredients until shortening melts.
  • Then let cool until temperature is right for yeast.
  • Add whole wheat flour and sprinkle yeast on top of flour, then stir.
  • Add all-purpose flour until moderately stiff.
  • Turn out onto floured area and knead 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Place in greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Punch down and divide into thirds.
  • Let rest 10 minutes. Put into greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch pans.
  • Cover and let rise 35 to 45 minutes.
  • Bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes.
