- 1 c. quick rolled oats
- 1 c. whole bran cereal
- 1 c. raisins (optional)
- 1 1/2 c. cream-style cottage cheese
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 1/2 c. boiling water
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 6 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
Method
- Combine first 8 ingredients until shortening melts.
- Then let cool until temperature is right for yeast.
- Add whole wheat flour and sprinkle yeast on top of flour, then stir.
- Add all-purpose flour until moderately stiff.
- Turn out onto floured area and knead 5 to 7 minutes.
- Place in greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour.
- Punch down and divide into thirds.
- Let rest 10 minutes. Put into greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch pans.
- Cover and let rise 35 to 45 minutes.
- Bake at 375° for 30 to 35 minutes.
