Ingredients

  • 9 or 10 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 c. currants
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 1/2 lb. citron
  • 1 lb. figs
  • 1 c. grape juice
  • 1 tsp. mace
  • 1 1/2 lb. raisins
  • 1 1/2 lb. sugar
  • 1 1/2 lb. flour
  • 1/4 lb. shelled walnuts
  • 1 lb. dates
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Method

  • Cream butter; add sugar and cream thoroughly.
  • Add eggs and mix.
  • Use half the flour to dust the raisins, currants, citron, dates, figs and nuts.
  • Mix spices with remaining flour.
  • Add grape juice to creamed mixture and add remaining dry ingredients.
  • Grease and line with brown paper a tube or loaf pan(s).
  • Fill the pan(s) half full with mixture.
  • Bake in a slow 225° oven for 3 hours or until done.
