Ingredients

  • 6 c. (1-inch cubes) day old French or Italian bread
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • confectioners sugar and maple syrup

Method

  • Place bread cubes in a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. In medium bowl, beat together eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon until well blended.
  • Pour over bread and lightly toss until bread is evenly coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight.
  • Bake in preheated 400° oven until golden brown and set, about 40 minutes.
  • Serve warm with confectioners sugar or maple syrup.
