Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast/2 Packages
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 c. cool water
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 5 c. sifted flour
  • 2-3 tbsp. butter/shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cinnamon
  • Raisins, optional

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.
  • Pour boiling water over shortening, sugar and salt.
  • Add in cool water and cold to lukewarm Knead lightly on floured board till smooth.
  • Place in greased bowl.
  • Cover, let rise till double in size.
  • Roll 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread soft butter (butter) over dough.
  • Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon (raisins) and roll up.
  • Healthy pinch to seal.
  • Cut in 1 inch sections and place in greased pan (allow room to rise).
  • Rise 1 hour.
  • Bake 20-25 min at 350 degrees (metal pan).
  • Makes about 24.
