Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • sugar

Method

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  • Sift flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; set aside.
  • Mix butter, confectioners sugar, egg, vanilla and almond extract in a large bowl.
  • Blend in flour mixture.
  • Cover and chill 2 to 3 hours. Divide dough in half and roll each half 2/16-inch thick on a lightly floured board.
  • Dip a cookie cutter into flour and press on dough to make various designs.
  • Sprinkle with colored sugar or granulated sugar.
  • Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until light brown on edges.
  • Cool on cooling rack. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
