Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. lard
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 1/3 c. sugar

Method

  • Sift together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Cream lard
  • and the 1 cup sugar.
  • Add egg, molasses and water; beat
  • thoroughly.
  • Stir
  • sifted
  • dry
  • ingredients into creamed mixture,
  • mixing
  • well.
  • Shape
  • dough into balls about the size of a
  • small walnut and roll in 1/3 cup sugar.
  • Place on a cookie sheet
  • about
  • 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in a moderate 350° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Yield:
  • 4 dozen cookies.
