Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. honey
  • 3/4 c. molasses
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 c. boiling water

Method

  • Preheat oven to 325°.
  • Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  • Cream the butter for 2 minutes.
  • Add honey and molasses.
  • Cream mixture for 2 minutes longer.
  • Beat in eggs, one by one.
  • Mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg until well combined.
  • Stir mixture units the batter alternately with the boiling water.
  • Stir until smooth.
