Ingredients
- 3 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1 egg, beaten well
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. sifted cake flour (or 1 3/4 c. regular flour)
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
Method
- Combine chocolate, 1/2 cup milk, well-beaten egg and 2/3 cup sugar in saucepan.
- Cook over low heat until thick, stirring constantly.
- Cool.
- Thoroughly cream shortening, 1 cup sugar and vanilla.
- Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time.
- Sift flour, soda and salt together; add to creamed ingredients alternately with 2/3 cup milk.
- Blend in chocolate mixture and pour into two 9-inch pans. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.
- When cool, frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
