Ingredients

  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 2 c. hot water
  • 1 c. melted Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. each: nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sherry wine
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 pkg. or jar candied fruit mix

Method

  • Put hot water over raisins.
  • Mix raisins, sugar and Crisco. Mix dry ingredients.
  • Add dry ingredients to raisin mixture when cool, not cold.
  • Add fruit, nuts and wine.
  • Put into well-greased and floured pans.
  • Fill to 1-inch of top.
  • Start baking at 350° for 20 minutes, then reduce to 300° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
