- 1 lb. butter
- 3 c. brown sugar
- 4 Tbsp. buttermilk
- 4 eggs, well beaten
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 6 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 lb. light raisins
- 1 lb. candied cherries
- 1 lb. candied pineapple
- 8 c. chopped nuts
- 1 tsp. spice
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. mace
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Method
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add buttermilk and eggs.
- Sift soda with 1/2 of flour and blend in.
- Add all spices.
- Add remaining flour to fruit and nuts and blend in.
- Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
- Bake at 300° for 14 minutes.
- Remove to wire racks to cool.
