Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter
  • 3 c. brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. buttermilk
  • 4 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 6 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 lb. light raisins
  • 1 lb. candied cherries
  • 1 lb. candied pineapple
  • 8 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp. spice
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. mace
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add buttermilk and eggs.
  • Sift soda with 1/2 of flour and blend in.
  • Add all spices.
  • Add remaining flour to fruit and nuts and blend in.
  • Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 300° for 14 minutes.
  • Remove to wire racks to cool.
