Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 fresh apples
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 c. walnuts, chopped
  • 4 tsp. baking soda
  • pinch of ginger
  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 4 c. flour

Method

  • According to size of apples, process enough to produce 2 1/2 cups of applesauce.
  • In hot applesauce add soda and then butter. Add sugar and remaining ingredients, stir well.
  • In a 13 x 9-inch baking pan, bake at 350° for 1 hour or until cake tester comes out clean.
  • This is a large cake.
