Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c. finely chopped, pared apples
  • 1 c. walnuts
  • 1 Tbsp. flour

Method

  • Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  • Cream together sugar and shortening until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Add dry ingredients, beating well after each addition. Stir in apples.
  • Combine walnuts and 1 tablespoon flour.
  • Stir into batter.
  • Pour into greased and floured 9-inch square baking pan.
  • Bake in 350° oven 50 minutes or until cake tests done.
  • Cool in pan on rack.
  • Makes 9 servings.
