Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 c. butter
  • salt or garlic salt and pepper
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. flour
  • 4 cans beef broth (Campbell's or Swanson)
  • approximately 3 c. water
  • garlic bread or French bread
  • grated Mozzarella cheese

Method

  • Peel and cut onions into very thin slices.
  • Cook onion slices in butter over very low heat.
  • Add salt and pepper according to taste.
  • Sprinkle in flour, stirring constantly to thicken butter/onion mixture.
  • Slowly add beef broth and water, then bring to boil.
  • Simmer with pan covered for 20 to 30 minutes.
