Ingredients

  • 1 (7 oz.) pkg. elbow macaroni (3 c.)
  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 12 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 c. milk
  • 20 oz. grated sharp Cheddar cheese (yellow or white)

Method

  • Cook macaroni for 10 minutes on High.
  • Add 3/4 cup butter; microwave 1 to 2 minutes on High.
  • Blend in the flour and salt. Add the milk; stir until smooth.
  • Microwave 5 1/2 to 6 minutes on High, stirring with table fork every minute until thickened.
  • Add the grated cheese; stir until completely melted.
  • Stir sauce into drained macaroni; mix well.
  • Microwave 16 minutes on Medium, stirring every 3 minutes.
  • If desired, sprinkle top with paprika or buttered bread crumbs or cubes before serving.
