Ingredients

  • 5 lb. flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. salt
  • 1/4 lb. shortening
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 2 1/2 c. water (more or less)

Method

  • Mix flour, sugar, salt and shortening together; add yeast and water.
  • Mix until smooth.
  • Put in nine 1 pound loaves; let rise about 1 hour.
  • Roll out dough to form long loaves.
  • Put in loaf pans; let set for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Punch down; let rise again.
  • Bake in preheated 400° oven about 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Yield: 9 loaves.
