Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 egg yolk
  • milk
  • 8 c. peeled and sliced tart apples
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1 small can (6 or 8 oz.) crushed pineapple
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 egg white, stiffly beaten
  • 1 c. confectioners sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch

Method

  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  • Beat egg yolk in measuring cup.
  • Add milk to egg to make 2/3 cup.
  • Stir milk mixture into flour.
  • Stir until mixture holds together.
