Ingredients

  • 1 pd. lean ground hamburger
  • 1 1/4 cup italian bread crumbs
  • 3 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 28oz jar marinara sauce
  • 1 28oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pd ground sausage
  • 6 large french bread rolls or 12 small
  • 2 stick of melted butter
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cup mozzarella cheese

Method

  • In a dutch oven combine the marinara sauce, tomatoes, red pepper flake, garlic powder, basil, and oregano.
  • Simmer this over low heat for 20 min.
  • While sauce is simmering in a large bowl combine beef, sausage, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, and onion.
  • Mix this thoroughly.
  • Form into small meatballs.
  • Brown the meatballs on both side in a skillet coated with a small amount of oil
  • Place the cooked meatballs into the marinara sauce.
  • Cut your french bread lengthwise and place on a baking pan.
  • In a bowl mix the butter and garlic powder
  • Brush the garlic butter on the rolls.
  • Place in a 425 degrees oven until browned
  • When browned add the meatballs and some of the sauce on the bottom portion and top with some of the cheese and place under broiler until melted.
