Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 lb. round steak
  • 2 Tbsp. oil, divided
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • hot cooked rice

Method

  • Trim fat from steak. Cut steak into 1/2-inch strips. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak and brown. Remove steak from skillet. Add remaining oil. Add onions and garlic and cook, stirring, until onion is tender and transparent. Return steak to pan. Add soy sauce, sugar and water. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1 hour or until steak is tender, adding more water if needed. Serve meat and pan drippings over rice. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
