Ingredients

  • 4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 c. corn syrup
  • 5 drops red food coloring
  • 3/4 tsp. oil of cinnamon (may be purchased at drug store)

Method

  • Combine sugar, water and syrup in a large Dutch oven.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Stir in food coloring.
  • Continue to cook, without stirring, until mixture reaches hard crack stage or 300° on candy thermometer.
  • Remove from heat and stir in oil of cinnamon.
  • Working rapidly, spread mixture onto oiled 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
  • Let cool. Break into pieces.
  • Yields 4 dozen pieces.
