Ingredients
- 5 slices bread, toasted (French or homemade is best)
- 2 beaten eggs
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp. butter, cut in small pieces
- nutmeg
Method
- Tear bread in pieces and place in buttered shallow casserole. Mix together the eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla and milk; pour over bread.
- Dot with butter and sprinkle with nutmeg.
- Bake in pan of water at 400° for 10 minutes, then at 350° for 20 minutes or until puffed and brown.
