Ingredients

  • 5 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp. warm water
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Method

  • Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Cut in shortening.
  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add to dry ingredients with buttermilk.
  • Knead until smooth.
  • Roll out and cut with biscuit cutter.
  • Dip each in melted butter and fold over.
  • Place on baking sheet and let rise until double in size. Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.
