Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • few grains black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic salt
  • 2/3 c. cornmeal
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2/3 c. milk

Method

  • Sift together first 6 ingredients.
  • Stir in meal.
  • Add 2 tablespoons shortening.
  • Mix well.
  • Slightly beat egg and add milk.
  • Add to mixture and mix well.
  • Using a spatula, spread each frankfurter with batter until evenly coated.
  • Deep fry as many at one time that will float uncrowded.
  • Makes 20 to 22.
