Ingredients
- 13 cup butter (softened)
- 14 cup sugar (granulated)
- 1 cup flour (all, purpose)
- 13 cup hazelnuts (finely chopped or filberts, almonds toasted)
- 2 eggs
- 34 cup sugar (granulated)
- 2 tablespoons flour (all, purpose)
- 1 tablespoon orange (shredded finely peel)
- 2 tablespoons oranges (juice)
- 1 teaspoon lemon (finely shredded peel)
- 1 tablespoon lemon (juice)
- 12 teaspoon baking powder
Method
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- For crust: In a medium bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
- Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar; beat until combined.
- Beat in one cup of flour and half of the nuts until crumbly.
- Press mixture into bottom of ungreased 8x8x2 - inch baking pan.
- Bake about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, in another medium bowl, combine eggs, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, orange peel, orange juice, lemon peel, lemon juice and baking powder.
- Beat on medium speed about 2 minutes or until combined.
- Pour mixture over crust.
- Sprinkle with remaining nuts.
- Bake about 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and center is set.
- Cool in pan on wire rack.
- If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- Cut into bars.
- Store bars, covered, in refrigerator.
