Ingredients

  • 13 cup butter (softened)
  • 14 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 1 cup flour (all, purpose)
  • 13 cup hazelnuts (finely chopped or filberts, almonds toasted)
  • 2 eggs
  • 34 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 2 tablespoons flour (all, purpose)
  • 1 tablespoon orange (shredded finely peel)
  • 2 tablespoons oranges (juice)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon (finely shredded peel)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon (juice)
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • For crust: In a medium bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
  • Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar; beat until combined.
  • Beat in one cup of flour and half of the nuts until crumbly.
  • Press mixture into bottom of ungreased 8x8x2 - inch baking pan.
  • Bake about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, in another medium bowl, combine eggs, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, orange peel, orange juice, lemon peel, lemon juice and baking powder.
  • Beat on medium speed about 2 minutes or until combined.
  • Pour mixture over crust.
  • Sprinkle with remaining nuts.
  • Bake about 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and center is set.
  • Cool in pan on wire rack.
  • If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • Cut into bars.
  • Store bars, covered, in refrigerator.
