Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 pkg. fast acting yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. soft shortening
  • 1 egg
  • approximately 5 c. sifted flour

Method

  • Pour warm water into large mixing bowl.
  • Add sugar and yeast; let stand a few minutes.
  • Stir to dissolve.
  • Add salt, shortening and egg; stir.
  • Add half of flour and beat until smooth.
  • Add rest of flour and knead on floured board.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place about 30 minutes.
  • Form rolls in greased muffin tins or roll pan.
  • Let rise and bake 10 to 15 minutes at 400°.
