Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 2 sq. melted unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 c. chopped maraschino cherries

Method

  • Sift together dry ingredients.
  • Set aside.
  • Cream brown sugar and Crisco, creaming well.
  • Blend in unbeaten egg.
  • Stir in half the dry ingredients.
  • All the 1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice and 2 tablespoons milk, then stir in remaining dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Blend in 2 squares melted chocolate, walnuts and maraschino cherries.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Cut large marshmallows in half.
  • Place cut side down on hot cookies.
  • Cool on rack.
  • Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
