Ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Combine margarine, shortening, cocoa and water in small saucepan.
  • Bring
  • to
  • rapid boil and pour over flour, sugar and salt
  • which
  • have been sifted into a large bowl.
  • Mix well and add buttermilk to which soda has been added.
  • Blend well; add slightly beaten eggs and vanilla.
  • Mix well and pour into a greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes.
