Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • 4 oz. chocolate
  • 2 Tbsp. additional fat
  • 2 c. nuts, chopped

Method

  • Cream shortening and brown sugar.
  • Add eggs and vanilla.
  • Sift together flour, salt and baking powder; add alternately with milk to the creamed mixture.
  • Add melted chocolate and melted additional fat.
  • Add nuts.
  • Drop from a teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet.
  • Top with candied cherries.
  • Bake 15 minutes at 350°.
  • Makes 10 dozen.
