Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. sour milk or 1 c. milk with 2 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. boiling water

Method

  • Cream together sugar, eggs and Crisco.
  • Sift together flour, soda, cocoa and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour milk.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Add boiling water; stir only until well blended.
  • Divide between 2 well-greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
  • Bake at 350° for 45 minutes or until done.
  • Cool completely before frosting with Chocolate Frosting.
