Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter or oleo
  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. dates, chopped
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Grease a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
  • In a large saucepan, over low heat, melt butter and chocolate.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Gradually stir in sugar until well blended.
  • Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Stir in flour, dates, nuts, vanilla and salt until smooth.
  • Spread in pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until center is set (do not overbake). Cool in pan on wire rack.
  • Cut into bars.
  • Makes 32 (2 x 1 1/2-inch) bars.
