Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/3 c. cocoa minus 1 tsp.
  • 3 c. milk
  • 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Method

  • Mix sugar, flour, cornstarch and cocoa in saucepan or double boiler.
  • Gradually stir in milk.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
  • Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat.
  • Gradually stir at least half of hot mixture into egg yolks that have been beaten.
  • Then blend into hot mixture in double boiler.
  • Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened.
  • Blend in butter and vanilla.
  • Pour into a 9-inch baked pie shell.
  • Top with meringue or Cool Whip.
