Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1/3 c. cocoa minus 1 tsp.
- 3 c. milk
- 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 1 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Method
- Mix sugar, flour, cornstarch and cocoa in saucepan or double boiler.
- Gradually stir in milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.
- Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat.
- Gradually stir at least half of hot mixture into egg yolks that have been beaten.
- Then blend into hot mixture in double boiler.
- Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened.
- Blend in butter and vanilla.
- Pour into a 9-inch baked pie shell.
- Top with meringue or Cool Whip.
