Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, cut in wedges
  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 3/4 c. vinegar
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 2 lb. fresh plums, quartered
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract

Method

  • In saucepan, cook onion in oil until soft.
  • Mix cornstarch with vinegar and sugar. Add to onion. Cook, stirring until thickened. Add plums, salt and extract. Continue cooking until fruit is tender.
  • Spoon some sauce over partially cooked spareribs. Grill, brushing frequently with sauce.
  • Heat remaining sauce to serve with barbecued spareribs.
  • Makes about 2 1/2 cups.
