Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 c. water
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. salt
- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 3 Tbsp. minced onion (1 1/2 Tbsp. dried minced)
- 2 Tbsp. margarine
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 4 c. milk
- 4 c. grated American cheese
Method
- Boil first 5 ingredients in a very large pan until potatoes are done but still firm.
- In a second large pan, melt margarine; stir in flour until smooth.
- Gradually stir in milk and cook over low heat until hot.
- Stir in the cheese.
- When it is melted, pour the milk mixture into the pan of potatoes and water.
- Stir.
- Makes about 1 gallon.
- Great reheated, too.
