Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tbsp cold butter, chopped
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1/4 tsp poppy seeds

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Sift flour into a large bowl. Rub in butter using fingertips until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Season to taste.
  • Reserve 1 tbsp milk. Stir in remaining milk until mixture just comes together.
  • Knead dough gently on a lightly floured surface. Form into a 10 x 8 inch rectangle. Press cheese into dough. Roll up from long side and cut into 6 pieces.
  • Arrange rolls in a circle, cut side down, on prepared pan. Brush top with reserved milk. Sprinkle with seeds.
  • Bake for 15-20 mins, until buns sound hollow when tapped. Serve warm.
