Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. enriched flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 3/4 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. nuts
  • 1 c. sauerkraut, rinsed, drained and chopped

Method

  • Stir together dry ingredients; reserve. Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs to creamed mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla. Stir in sauerkraut and nuts.
  • Pour into greased 13 x 9-inch pan and bake in preheated 350° oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool. Frost with Whipped Caramel Frosting.
