Ingredients

  • 60 apples
  • 12 c. sugar
  • 4 c. light Karo syrup
  • 6 c. water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 bottle red food coloring

Method

  • Have apples at room temperature.
  • Wipe apples with clean, damp cloth.
  • Insert stick 3/4 deep into apples.
  • Combine all ingredients, except apples, in saucepan, sides of which have been buttered.
  • Stir until it comes to a boil.
  • Let cook without stirring until it reaches a hard crack stage (300°).
  • Remove from fire.
  • Dip apple in syrup and twist.
  • Lift apple out and let excess syrup drip off.
  • Place on buttered aluminum foil or cookie sheet. When cool, wrap with Saran Wrap or Baggies.
