Ingredients
- 60 apples
- 12 c. sugar
- 4 c. light Karo syrup
- 6 c. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 bottle red food coloring
Method
- Have apples at room temperature.
- Wipe apples with clean, damp cloth.
- Insert stick 3/4 deep into apples.
- Combine all ingredients, except apples, in saucepan, sides of which have been buttered.
- Stir until it comes to a boil.
- Let cook without stirring until it reaches a hard crack stage (300°).
- Remove from fire.
- Dip apple in syrup and twist.
- Lift apple out and let excess syrup drip off.
- Place on buttered aluminum foil or cookie sheet. When cool, wrap with Saran Wrap or Baggies.
