Ingredients

  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry navy beans
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry black-eyed peas
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. Great Northern beans
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. kidney beans
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. dry butter beans
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. black beans
  • 1/3 to 1/2 c. pinto beans
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 c. chopped carrot
  • 1 c. chopped celery
  • meaty ham bone or 2 c. chopped ham
  • 2 c. chopped tomatoes
  • salt to taste
  • pinch of baking soda

Method

  • Rinse and drain all beans and peas, black beans separately. In a big pot, cook beans and peas with ham bone for 3 hours.
  • Cook black beans separately, then drain and add to other beans.
  • Remove ham bone.
  • Add veggies and salt.
  • Cook another hour.
  • Yummy!
