Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter, margarine or shortening, melted
  • 1 c. light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. fine coconut or chopped walnuts

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Grease 8-inch cake pan well.
  • Melt butter over low heat.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Stir in sugar until blended. Cool.
  • Stir in egg.
  • Blend in sifted flour, salt and baking powder mixture.
  • Mix in vanilla and coconut or nuts.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Do not overbake.
  • Cut in bars while warm.
