Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

Method

  • Cream the sugar and shortening until no sugar grains are left. Mix dry ingredients.
  • Fold in beaten egg yolks.
  • Add buttermilk and dry ingredients alternately.
  • Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  • Add flavorings.
  • Bake in greased Bundt pan for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until done.
  • Can be glazed.
  • This cake is better the second day.
