Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
- 1 c. milk, scalded
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 4 1/2 to 5 c. all-purpose flour, divided
- Herb Butter (recipe follows)
Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl; let stand 5 minutes.
- Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt in a saucepan. Place over low heat, stirring until shortening melts.
- Cool to 105° to 115°.
- Stir into yeast mixture.
- Add eggs and 1 cup flour, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer.
- Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
