Ingredients

  • 12 c. day old bread cubes
  • 3 c. scalded milk
  • 1 can peaches, cut up and drained
  • 1 can pears, cut up and drained
  • 1/4 c. melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Method

  • Toss bread with milk.
  • Add fruit and butter.
  • Beat eggs and spices together.
  • Mix into bread mixture.
  • Pour into buttered 3 to 4-quart casserole dish.
  • Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes at 350° until knife inserted in middle comes out clean.
  • Serve warm or cold with vanilla pudding over top.
