Ingredients
- 9 slices white bread
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tall can evaporated milk
- 2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 egg yolks
- 1/3 c. butter, melted
- 4 egg whites
- raisins or pecans
Method
- Break bread into a baking dish in small pieces.
- In bowl mix 1 cup sugar, milk, vanilla, egg yolks and butter and pour over bread in 10 x 8 x 2-inch dish.
- Bake in preheated oven at 450° for 15 minutes.
- Remove and make meringue.
- Beat egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff.
- Cover pudding with meringue and rebake for 2 to 4 minutes, until meringue is golden brown.
- Serves 12.
