Ingredients
- 1 c. corn meal, sifted
- 2 c. whole-wheat flour (unsifted)
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. raisins, parboiled
- 3/4 c. molasses
- 2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 qt. milk
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 2 2/3 pkg. dry yeast or 1/6 c. yeast
- 1/2 c. lard or shortening
- 6 tsp. salt
- 7 to 9 c. flour
Method
- Add yeast to warm water. Add other ingredients and let dough rise. Work into biscuits and drop into hot fat.
