Ingredients

  • 3 broccoli full stems
  • salt
  • butter oil Optional
  • 4 quarts boiling water
  • salt

Method

  • Prepare a pot of boiling salted water, a cupped handful of salt to 4 quarts of water.
  • Prepare fresh broccoli by cutting 1/2 stems away from the bottom of the broccoli. Cut remaining stems away from flowerets and break flowerets into bite size pieces. Peel the large stems and cut into bite size pieces.
  • Prepare crock pot by adding 1 inch of water to the pot. Place crumpled tin foil on top of the water, in a way, to hold the broccoli up out of the water. Turn crockpot on low or warm.
  • For this recipe, do not shock the blanched broccoli in iced water. Drop the broccoli into boiling water until it turns a bright green, around a minute or so. Broccoli should still have a bite to the stem when taste testing.
  • Strain broccoli out of water with a slotted spoon or a Spider. Place on paper towels to drain well.
  • Once nicely drained, place broccoli onto the foil in the crock pot. Cover with lid up to 2 hours holding.
  • To serve, plate broccoli on a nice platter. You can serve it just as it is or drizzle with olive oil or butter. Enjoy!
  • Note:Use this recipe when preparing dinner for a dinner party, large or small. It will save the last minute hustle to bring everything together at the same time.
