Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. cloves, ground
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 c. blackberry jam

Method

  • Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, soda, cloves and cinnamon. Add shortening, brown sugar and buttermilk. Mix until all ingredients are moist. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Add eggs and beat 2 minutes more. Add jam and beat until well mixed. Bake in 2 greased and lightly floured 9-inch pans at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes. Frost with caramel glaze or butter cream.
