Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 Large eggs
  • 3 c. flour
  • 3 teaspoon baking pwdr
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon anise flavoring
  • 1 c. coarsely minced almonds

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
  • Add in Large eggs, one at a time and beat well.
  • Sift flour, measure, sift again with baking pwdr and salt.
  • Add in to creamed mix.
  • Stir in flavoring and nuts.
  • Turn mix onto lightly floured board.
  • Knead till smooth.
  • Divide dough in half.
  • Form 2 rolls the length of a cookie sheet and 1 1/2 inch in diameter.
  • Bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) for 30 min or possibly till rolls are hard to the touch.
  • While still warm, cut rolls crosswise into slices 3/4 inch thick.
  • Lay cut side down on cookie sheet.
  • Return to oven, bake 10 min longer to toast and dry out.
