Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. warm water (110~ to 115~)
- 2 pkg. Red Star special active dry yeast
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. soft shortening
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 egg
Method
- Pour warm water in large mixing bowl; add yeast.
- Let stand a few minutes; stir to dissolve.
- Add half the flour, sugar, salt, shortening and egg.
- Start mixer on medium speed and beat until smooth 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.
- Stop mixer.
- Add rest of flour and stir by hand until flour disappears.
- Scrape batter down from sides of bowl.
- Cover bowl with waxed paper and let rise in warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
