Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 6 Tbsp. buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts

Method

  • Put all ingredients, except walnuts, into a bowl; beat 3 minutes.
  • Add walnuts and mix well.
  • Pour into greased bread pan, 5 1/2 x 9 1/2 x 2 1/2-inches, spreading batter very high on the sides and low in the middle.
  • Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
  • Serve sliced thin with butter or cream cheese.
